Citrus

As you may or may not know I have a separate website that has all my writing on. The site has been going for several years and is coming on nicely thank you.

Citrus
Anyway what I was about to say was that one part of the site deals with my citrus fruits book, which has been a project that I have been doing for some time now, it must be some time, as the book has got to version 5a. Well that's not 100% true as on the site the last published version is 5. On the computer is version 5a which was started some time late last year and was basically some corrections to version 5 and some new pictures that I had found.

Version 6
Well for some reason that I have yet to work out I have been doing some more research and the result is that version 5a is now most defiantly version 6. I can say this as I have added a lot more information, mainly on different varieties of some of the citrus fruits that I did not know very much about. If anything the additions could be more than 25% more than version 5 or 5a.

Publishing
Now we come to the part that goes to make life interesting and that is what am I going to do next, do I freeze the book as it is and publish it as version 6 or do I carry on to such and such date and then publish? I have yet to make my mind up which way to go, but I do know that one way or another I will have a version 6 I just don't know if I am going to get it done before the end of 2005.

"Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell"

Finally after nearly 3 weeks of reading at dinner times only I have finished a book that I enjoyed very much. Even better the book which comes in at 1006 pages only cost me 3.73 as Tesco were doing one of there top ten book offers.

Book
The name of the book is "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" written by Susanna Clarke the first thing that got me is that this book is her first novel, and wow what a novel, I have to admit here and now that when I first saw the book in hard back I was not too sure if it was my kind of book. But I am glad that I did decided to invest 3.73 as it's money well spent I had nearly 3 weeks of great entertainment what more could you ask. As an author she now has the task of proving to everyone that she is not a one book wonder, I hope she is not as I want to know what happens next, in fact I have the feeling that she does as well.

Film, Radio?
This is a book that I think could be adapted to radio as a series and it would work real well, it would need some good casting and a director who can get his or her head around the whole of the story. As a film I suspect that a lot of the depth and richness that make the book so good would be lost which is a pity, but I think that is due to the medium of film and the fact that a book is always much richer and deeper in depth than a film can ever be.

Book Two?
I have tried to find out if she has started or nearly finished book two but so far the answers have been unanswered, which is sad, so I have allowed myself and told myself that if she does get a new book out in 2006 it will be late 2006 or early 2007 before I will get chance to read it, perhaps by then something in another medium will have turned up who knows, lets hope so.

Great Ideas II
As you can tell, sometimes I use this page as a notebook were I can leave my ideas that I have so that at some stage or time in the future I can look back at them and then decided if the idea is worth spending more time on. Most of the ideas dont go anywhere e.g they don not lead to anything else other than and entry here in this note book. But sometimes the idea is worth looking at again and so the entry is a second look at an earlier idea.

Idea No 2
The basic idea is why can't you have rain water goods made in such a way that they will generate electricity?

Nano Fibre
The idea is that nano fibres are placed into the rain water goods at time of manufacturing, and they by some technique that I don't yet know of, if its at all possible the electricity generated can be channeled in such a way that it can be used to reduce the running costs of the building that the rain water goods are attached to.

Rain Water Goods
You may ask what are rain water goods and the simple answer to that question is that rain water goods are things like gutters and drain pipe work, it could also be I suppose the roof material as well, but not normally.

Problem One
The very first problem with this great idea of mine is that Nano Fibre is something that at this time does not yet exist. It may be a product that will get made sometime in the future if such a thing is possible. One thing is for certain if such a product does get made then someone is going to get very rich indeed. The other thing that is also certain is that nano fibre will exist in more than one form as it will end up being tailored for different uses and the different operating conditions that it will have to operate in. I suppose the other and that is the last thing is that the very first examples of nano fibre won't be as efficient as the later examples and the later examples will end up costing much less money as manufactures learn how to improve the process and get better production techniques in place. Its possible that lawsuits and all that sort of stuff will also happen as people realise that there is real big money to be made in using nano fibres.

Something To Think About
I have the feeling that there are more uses for nano fibres but at this time I just can't think of any more of them so when I do think of any more uses I will put them in this notebook.

Travel

Well my brother in law got to Branson MO by 1.30 am UK time, which when you stop and think of the distance that he has had to travel is really quite amazing.

What's more amazing is that we take it all for granted, that you can travel that kind of distance in one day.

Now What?
Well not really much more to say on the subject of travel, just that I wish that I could be on my hols now, instead of having to go back to work on Monday. But there are far worse things that you could end up doing so all in all I should be happy with what I have.

Early Mornings

Today picked up brother in law to take him to the train station with his wife at 5 am so the could train it to the airport

What do you think the chances are of meeting traffic on the roads, slim, no way, yeah good chance?

How about having to queue up to get into the train station?

Yep, even I was surprised, so was the other driver.

Brother in law caught his plane and is now on his way to the USA to see his wife's folks, only a 11 hour trip...

Project Part 1

As this is a place that I can store thoughts from a high desk I actually have one to store.

Idea 1
Do version 4 of the Citrus book
This is what happens when you change text colours, yes you start to feel sick....

Citrus Part 1

So things are still strange with the continued downloading of my Citrus book that I have on my web page at http://www.writing.dswilliams.co.uk/citrus.html the downloads are now running all most every day.

Why?

There are plenty of sites on the net that will give you far better information, so I have no clue as to what's going on.

I am thinking that I should perhaps do a version 4.0 of the book, the current version runs to 56 pages of A4, what the new version will run to I just don't know. What the current version would look like if published as a normal sized paperback book, and how many pages it would to run to I have no idea at all.

Checking

So here I am at the computer I have uploaded a new post to this Blog, what happens?
When I go to look at my Blog, no new post...

Whats going on?

I check several hours later and there it is

Why the delay?

Whats going on...

Blog RIP?

I was as I said the other day talking about if Blog sites die quicker on the net than your average website.

Will it got me thinking are there other reasons for why a web or Blog site only lasts a few months, is it a purely English speaking thing? Is it a purely western thing?

I am sorry to say that I just don't know the answers to these questions. But I hope that by keeping a good look out on the news sites on the net and the BBC, that some one some where will have the same questions and will be in a position to provide some of the answers. I think form where I am sitting( on a high desk) that the answers when they do come in will be interesting.

Spelling
One thing here that I have to say sorry for is my appalling spelling, having word blindness does tend to make the world an interesting place and having a spell checker is of no help when both the correct way to spell a word and the wrong both look okay!

China

I had this thought today all about China, and as this is my note book for ideas and all that sort of stuff I thought I would jot it down here.

So What's it about?

What I think will happen is that in the next 5 years e.g by 2010 China will become the most powerful nation on the Earth in economic terms.

WHY?

Well the rate of growth outstrips all the other countries in the world today, a trend that has been going on for 5 years or more so far.

One large province alone produces 5 million graduates in high tech subjects each and every year, that's only one of many more.

By the way, the cost of getting the very best graduates is one third the cost of USA or Europe.

A lot of the very high tech R&D is on the move, yes you guessed it, it's in Asia or China, that is a trend that is getting faster and quicker.

The Chinese working population are a very flexible workforce, from what I have read, take on change better, quicker than most other workforce in the world.

So look out China is going to be the world's economic powerhouse.

Another Reason?

This is another reason that I came up with, I suspect that it's wrong or flawed in some way or another but I put it here just for the fun of it.

The USA is falling or slowing down as an economic powerhouse because of its claim culture, it's easier to sue some one than to make money by use of your hands or your brain. In other words the society has become cannibalistic in nature, so it's rate of producing new things, drops as people become wary of being sued in ways and means that they never thought possible.

Right Or Wrong?

Who knows? Much more clever people will talk and comment on China over the next few years and I for one will keep a look out, just to see how accurate my look into the future was and how off target I was..

Dead Blogs

Dead Blogs

I did some surfing of the old web Blogs, and I have come to the conclusion that Blog pages die faster than websites, which when you think of how easy it is to make a Blog.

Just look at blogger for how easy it is to set yourself up.

The why should so many Blog sites end up with just a few posts?

Is Blogging a passing trend?

Was it cool to say to your friends, "Look at me I'm with it I have a blog nanh nanh"

So of the 20 or so Blog sites that I looked at, only two of them are what I would say were a live. (By live I mean a post in the last month or so) most of the sites I looked at, had between 1 and 5 posts.

Most of the sites seemed to have lasted some 3 months on average.

I did see somewhere on the net that the average website last 6 months, I suspect the reason being that you have to put far more effort into making a website than you do a Blog site.

I have not seen anything in the press about this Blog life span, gee could I be the first to have spotted this trend?

The other thing that I did notice was the trend towards photoblogs, spotting this trend is a no brainier, now that digital cameras have become so much cheaper.

I have yet to see a digital camera being given away with your cornflakes, but it has to happen.
