Largerita

This is a great summer drink that with great food and friends is nice, a hot summers day is even better, and a BBQ is well even more better.

So to make a Largerita you will need

Bottle of Mexican beer (Sol) make sure it's cold, if you have no Sol I have found that any 5%

One shot of tequila

One shot of triple sec

One shot of lime cordial

Fresh lime juice to taste

Mix vigorously and serve with ice.

Music for Audio movies

This is my new project and I must say that I am very happy with it so far, I must be as I released the first album in the project on 26 Feb 2012' which comprises of five tracks, I must have been even more pleased in that I have put two of the tracks up on Sound cloud for all who care can listen to them.

The second album in the project is also well under way as I have lots of tracks in various states of near completion, which was a bit of a surprise to me when I looked in my project folders and saw just how many different tracks I have been creating, with a lot of them at nearly 90 percent complete.

I as yet do not have a name for the next album, and I also have not yet managed to update my music website with the details of the new album, which is where I will make all the tracks available for download.

The first album has the name of Fade into the Night as was I think inspired by the fact that a lot of personal friendships seem to either start or finish in the night?

The album only has five tracks with the first track very different from the other four, the opening track is a lively introduction to the album, while the other four tracks are a more soulful marking I think that relationships that fade into the night can be good or bad.

Fade into the night

I have finally completed some music, the first time in several years to be precise. I have not stopped making music it's just that I have tended to have played with lots of new software and made lots of great sounds and soundscapes, but no tracks for an album.

The new album is called Fade into the Night and has five tracks on it, sadly the track names leave a lot to be desired in that they are parts 1 to 5!

Don't know why but that's how they ended up being called, it's not as if I have any control over what the tracks where going to be called.

The album is part of my new project called music for audio movies. At this time it has only the album Fade into the Night as part of it, but I seem to be creating a lot of tracks at this time so I don't think it will be long before the second album in the project will has tracks and a name.

The tracks are coming think and fast for some reason I have lots of musical ideas at this time so I am putting them down as fast as I can.

Audio movies need good music and I have plenty of tracks that have been inspired by many different things, from books other music and the weather!

I think the project will be fun and as I get inspired I will theme up each album in the project.

As a start I have put tow of the tracks parts 1 and 2 on sound cloud for people to hear if they want to.

Updates

Finally after I don't know how long I had the inspiration to do some work on the Dirk Maggs productions website, I have almost but not quite got all of the pages working correctly, I did take more than two hours to alter almost all the pages, to my knowledge I have missed just two pages, which out over 500 is not bad going.

I don't know how soon I will see in the website stats the number missing pages count drop.

So earlier this evening a very unusual thing happened no water. There appears to have been a problem with the mains somewhere that took out all the water to the street.

ISS

I was luck today in that the skies where clear at 6.12pm as that's when the ISS when overhead here in Hampshire, thanks to Chris Lintot for tweeting in plenty of time I had the chance to go outside and see it for myself for the first time this year.

Butterfly

Just for the record saw my first butterfly of the year today. I don't know what type only that it was large and had orange and black on it and appeared to have double wings.

I wounded just how many more butterflies I will see this year as last year was not so good for seeing them, I suppose seeing a butterfly in Feb is early.

As you know I have a website or two on the Internet and its sad to say that for some unknown reason I just don't feel like updating them at this time. I don't know why it is as there has been a lot of time and effort put into them over the years.

I have lots to do on them to bring them right up today's standards and also update the contents, but for some reason I just can't be bothered to update them, it would not take too long to do the update perhaps some five or six hours in total, and because of the way the websites are built it can all be done in bits and pieces.

So why?

Well today if what the weather men have said is correct it's going to be warm, they say that it could get up to 16 centigrade, which if true will be more the ten centigrade warmer than normal for this time of year.

So it will be interesting to see if it happens just as the weatherman say it will.

How come the paper coffee filter always seems to move so that I get bits in my coffee, why is it?

All I know is that it can make for an interesting cuppa if you are not expecting bits when drinking your coffee.

Nokia N8

This is my current phone and just for the record I am on O2. Earlier this week Nokia release a nice, or so I am told up date to the N8. I don't know what it's like as O2 for some unknown reason have not let us have it yet, even though the rest of the world have it, and from what I have read it appears to be working well.

Why are O2 so slow?

Do they care about there customers?

They have not even thought to let us customers know when they are going to let us have the update.

As you start to read the blogs and comments on the net about this, I have realised that there are some very angry people out there and that O2 have not done themselves any favours.

It also turns out that they are already selling N8's with the update already installed, so on the face of it it would appear being an existing customer is being a second class citizen.

I suppose that in the fullness of time we will find out why the delay and also get to enjoy the update.

Not sure which one it is, the main thing is that the fault what ever it was has been sorted and I now for a while until the next update have a working blogging programme yeah!

Blogpress updates itself to a new and improved version, so that's why I cant upload blogs to my blog, if that makes any sense.

Bad News

So I have had some bad news today, news that from one way of looking at it should have been 20 or even as little as 4 years ago.

But for the fact that the UK health service does have some very clever and caring people my Mother would have died 4 years ago.

Now in the grand scheme of things, e.g who ever writes this script called life we get the news that she now has a fast growing tumor in her airway that is inoperable.

The even evil bit is she gets this news 10 years to the day we buried my father, so someone somewhere does have a very sick sense of humor.

Hearing the news form my sister who was wither her I don't know how to feel about it, as in one sense it was always going to happen some time, just I don't want to hear it now.

My Mother on being told this news is reported to have remarked "What a shiter"! which I suppose does rather sum it all up.

As the lady has always lived her life how she wants to, it comes as now surprise that she has already started to put her life affairs in order and has already stated that she wants an eco burial, and is going to look at where she wishes to be buried...

I have told her since hearing the news that I love her and she replied that she loved me and that she would talk to me until the end, for reasons that I will not put in here, I shall only talk to her.

I can't face seeing her face to face as she declines, as I want to remember her as she was fit and fighting, she has said that she understands this, for which I am happy for her support.

So how long has my Mother got?

She says anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 Months but thinks from what the consultant said 8 weeks is probably very optimistic.

So I shall talk to my Mother until its time and tell her that I love her.

Moon

Last night it was a very clear night and so I was surprised just how great the moon looked its at what I think is one of the more interesting phases, in that it's a crescent or wane Moon.

What I like about this phase is that the unlit side of the Moon sort of glows in Earthshine and you can see it but not see it.

Not very far from the Moon in the sky was a really bright star, which when I used an app on the iPad showed me I was looking at a very bright Venus, the app also pointed out where Uranus is but as where I live is rather well light up at night I have no chance of seeing it and also I reckon you need a telescope to see it.

Cars

So I found out that the car that I have just brought has things missing from it that I thought would have come as standard.

It does not have front fog lights, and it does not have a range function which I find a bit of a surprise as it has a function to tell you when to change up or down gear, just like a formula one but without the speed!

So it would appear that I have brought the wrong car and I will now be stuck with it for two or more years. I suppose that it is my fault for not checking the specs.

But apart form the two things that I said above its actually a nice car to drive and is okay.

Just noticed that I am not doing that many blog entries at this moment in time, I think that it might have some thing to do with the fact that I have found a couple of games on Facebook or all places that I like to play at this time.

This will of course change as I tend to get board with the games after a while but at the moment I am enjoying myself.

New car

So I have my new car and it's interesting how things in the old car that you took for granted and different in the new car and that even though my old car was three years old how much has changed and also how much has not.

As I said before I have downsized on the car and the new car has stuff that it did not have before like cruise control and stuff like that, but one thing that it does not have is the range the car can do with the amount of fuel it has inboard.

It does have Bluetooth for the phone, a jack point for your mp3 player it even has a feature that tells you when to change up or down a gear, which is just like a formula one racing car, but a warning on just how far you can go before you run out of fuel no, nothing.

New car

So I got my new car yesterday, why is there so much paperwork to sign?

As I think I said before this time I have downsized the car, so one of the things that I have noticed is that the new car feels lighter which of course it is, as it's smaller.

The one thing that I did not check and thinking about it I should have is that my old car had a feature which told you how much range the car had with the fuel in the tank, it would appear that the new car does not have this, but it does have cruise control.

If I ever buy another new car a note to my self is to check what information the car can give me.

Website

I have managed to finally get some website software that I can actually use, which is good Asti means I have finally been able to start to edit and correct the faults that have stopped the Dirk Maggs Productions website from working correctly.

I am not sure what has caused the faults on the site as its an exact copy of the site that was working before I changed web hosts.

And I have checked more than once that I uploaded all the files that make up the site more than once but I still seemed to have the same sort of problem of links not working and of images missing, yet when checking they are there but for some unknown reason that just don't load.

Any way the good news is that with the new software I have managed to sort some of the problems out, the site works better than it did and more of the links now appear to work, which is always good.

What's sad is that when doing the site is just how little new work Dirk has done over the last few years, it would appear that the number of radio plays that the BBC use has dropped big time, which is sad.

Bots

As I said in another blog post I have been updating the Dirk Maggs Productions website, after I got some new website editing software that I can actually use, which out my head exploding.

One thing that I noticed while looking at the website logs was just how quick the various web bots notice a change in my website and that scan right through it.

The Google bot appeared to hit my website within a few minutes of me uploading changed and updated pages to my web host.

But the thing that opened my eyes was the fact that there are lots of other less well known bots out there that are if any thing quicker than the Google bot.

It's funny in that last year when ios5 came out it took some eight or more weeks for a corrected version of BlogPress to come out.

Now in the space of less than that time it's had two more updates, not that I am complaining as I now have a working programme which lets me blog as and when I want to.

I just hope that the next time that iOS gets updated and BlogPress for some reason does not work that they update quicker.

Do you sometimes fell as if you are viewing your life through a camera lens? I mean have you had that chance or feeling that you can relive part of your life thought your memories and that as you relive those memories it's as if you are seeing the world though a camera lens? Well if the answer is yes then you are not alone in that I have the same experience. Not that is either good or bad As far as I am concerned its a good experience in being able to replay in your head things that have happened, the good news is that when you replay your life in your head what you see is in 3d and in stereo and is much much better than anything you can see on the telly or at the movies. No it's true What you see in your head will always be better than anything that you see on tv or at the movies, the other great thing about it is that when you recall the events they will always be the same no matter how old you are when you recall them. It's also a bit sad that as you get older you will find yourself relieving the same events over and over again, I am told that it just something that happens as you get older! So my advice to you is make the most of the here and now as you are going to be able to in enjoy them more than once as the years pass you by and that in the end all you will have will be your memories of what was,and as they are so precious why not make sure they are the best memories you can have so that when you relive them that they are the best they can be! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

New car

So I said a while ago in another blog post that I am going to get a new car, now one of the biggest questions that needs to be answered is just what colour the car is going to be. I mean this is not a question that can be answered lightly, in fact as it is such an important question that needs an answer my wife and daughter are involved in this very important question and they have to be involved in the process. So even though it's me car the colour of the car is that important that wife and daughter will make the final choice! I know! Website Updates

I did some more work on the Dirk Maggs Productions website, not a lot as there is lots of other things at this time of year that one is supposed to be doing.

I managed to add tome pictures to the site for some of Dirks's early productions, eg his Flywheel stuff and also his Superman series two stuff.

The things is that redoing the website is taking so much longer than I remember it taking last time!

Why that is, I just don't have a clue.

But I suppose any progress no matter how small is better than nothing.....

Snow part2

So we were very lucky and the only snow we had did not last that long and did not settle.

Although I had to drive in it and it was not that bad, it did bring back memories of the snow from last year and also from earlier this year, which are ones that I really did not want to re live.

Website Updates

My main website Dirk Maggs Productions is as you will know from reading this blog being rebuilt after backups of backups not working and all that sort of stuff, one of the things that I have yet to work out is how to make sure that when its complete that the site can correctly be found, I have not yet worked out how to set up the web direct on my web host I am hoping that it will be just as easy as it was on the other hosting site I used to have.

Its not something that I have to worry about now, as the rebuilding of the site is going slow and at the rate of progress I think it will be this time next year before the site is fully back together again.

Did some work on my database driven Dirk Maggs website, for the first time in many weeks as I had some free time.

The site has a lot work left to be carried out on it, and so far I can not see it being finished until late 2012, unless I get some free time from somewhere.

I have finished the Clive Cussler book that I spoke about the other day, and for a fun read it was good, unfortunately the end of the book to me felt a bit rushed, but don't let that put you off, if you want some entertainment for a few hours then this could be a book for you.

Reading

Currently reading the following book, in fact I only have about twenty pages left its called Crescent Dawn and it's written by Clive Cussler and Dirk Cussler, I suspect that most of it was written by Dirk as it does read differently to a Clive written book.

As a story for entertainment it's great stuff, sadly it's something that could never be filmed as the costs for some of the set pieces would just be too great, it would I think work real well as a radio show, so if I had the odd 20k I could always commission it, you can guess who my producer and director and adapter would be?

Yes your right!

Dirk Maggs would be my choice, that is if I can get him away from his drums or the kitchen!

Anyway back to the book, it's a good read if you just want some simple fun entertainment with the characters written large and the scenery that is great and an eye opener, I really liked the very first opening scene and would so love to see it in audio and the big screen.

Still no sign of the software update which is now just starting to get annoying as its now more than two weeks in fact it could be three weeks now.

I know that I am
Using blogger app to upload to the blog but it has some serious short comes including the fact that you can not do blogs offline and then upload them when you have a connection and the other problem Is that the app Is setup for the iPhone and not the iPad but it does work so that's good.

For some reason that I yet to
Work out my xampp does not want to work on my new computer I wounded if it has anything to do with the fact that windows seven on it is 64 bit and on my old one it was only 32 bit?

So the old computer had to be replaced with a new one.

One of the problems in choosing a new computer was all the I's this and that I don't know what an i3 or an i7 is all I want is a computer that works and I don't have to wait for.

Still no update to BlogPress I am starting to wonder if it will ever appear.

As I paid for it I will not be happy if an update does not appear soon as apart from the fact that it does not work under ios5 it's a great programe, so apple where is my update?

Bowling

Went bowling for only the forth time in my life, played two rounds which was good.

The first round I got a score of 113 the second round I got a score of 169 so I am overall happy that in both rounds I scored more than 100.

I might as well say here and now that I have not really done very much to the sites as work and real life have taken up most of any free time that I have at this time of year.

The Dirk Maggs Producer website the main one is the same as I have not done any work to it.

The other site the database driven one has had some work done on it, I have done one complete year of radio productions 1989 and it took several hours to do.

One other thing that is now causing a lot of trouble for me is that the computer I use to up date the websites has now taken to freeze up or even better not to start at completely random times according to what I read either the graphics board is going or the main board of the computer.

As the computer is getting on a bit I suppose I should take advantage of the fact and get a new base unit, problem is which one?

From what I can see there are i3, i5, i7 which one is good? Which one will last say four or more years? And just how much memory is good for windows seven?

I don't know the answer to these questions yet

Still waiting

Well I am still waiting for the updated version of BlogPress that will work with ios5 so far as you can tell from this blog it has not happend.

So as a stop gap I am using blogger app which is not setup to work on the iPad but it does work its just that it does not look very nice as its all very chunky.

Apps

My normal app that I use on the iPad called BlogPress is not working under ios 5; which is not good.

According to the makers website an update was sent to apple 2 weeks ago and so it should appear soon!

Well I am still waiting for it to appear
